In the spirit of the holiday season, we would like to share a story that Brightpoint President and Chief Executive Officer Paul Vitale told at our staff holiday party earlier this month. It describes an example of what Brightpoint love is and how we integrate our core values in daily life.
Judy* has been a Brightpoint patient since 2007. She attends the ADHC program and gets primary care and behavioral health at the Sutphin Health Center in Queens.
When Judy came to Brightpoint, she was in a wheelchair. Diabetic neuropathy from uncontrolled blood sugar, had severely limited her mobility. Working with her Brightpoint care team, Judy was able to get her sugar levels under control and regain the ability to walk.
Judy’s Brightpoint community is an important part of her life. One of the annual highlights is participating in AIDS Walk as part as the Brightpoint team with fellow patients and staff. Unfortunately, she still suffers occasional flare-ups of neuropathy. At this year’s walk, the pain in her feet was especially acute. Judy didn’t think she could finish the six-mile walk.
That’s when another member of the Brightpoint AIDS Walk team, Medical Receptionist, Jimmy Chen, stepped in. Jimmy has known Judy for a while and knows how important the AIDS Walk is to her. Jimmy wasn’t there as a paid employee, he was on his own time because he sees how devastating HIV can be and knows the importance of treatment and finding a cure.
And to Jimmy, like all Brightpoint employees, our core values are a way of life. We don’t stop living them when we clock out or leave the office.
When Jimmy saw that Judy was struggling at AIDS Walk and falling back from the rest of the team, Jimmy stayed by her side. With Jimmy’s strong encouraging words, and physical support, Judy finished AIDS Walk.
The next day Judy arrived at the center in tears. She was so grateful to Jimmy and to Brightpoint, for the support at AIDS Walk and all the care and love she has received here.
The holidays are a time we share love with family and friends. Brightpoint Health is a place where love is shared every day, where we show our love by providing the highest quality care available anywhere. Judy, like many of our patients, gives it back to us with gratitude, smiles and sometimes, even tears.
Brightpoint sends our best wishes for joyous holidays and healthy, happy New Year to all of our friends and supporters.
*Judy is not her real name. As always, Brightpoint is committed to maintaining patient privacy.
