Paul D. Vitale is an accomplished health care executive with experience in virtually all aspects of the health care continuum and in both the nonprofit and for-profit sectors. Since he assumed the CEO position at Brightpoint Health in 2009, the organization has experienced three-fold growth in revenues and a 1,560% increase in clinical services. He propelled the opening of a dental clinic, transition of the health clinics to FQHC status, and development of the health home program. Vitale also oversaw Brightpoint’s highly successful merger with Community Health Action of Staten Island (CHASI) and other acquisitions that resulted in organizational growth and expansion of services to more New Yorkers.
Vitale has over 30 years of experience in provider and payor organizations in diverse settings including acute care, primary care, long-term care, home care and healthcare consulting. Previous to joining Brightpoint, he was the executive director of business development for Visiting Nurse Service of New York, a $1 billion nonprofit homecare company. Before that, Vitale served as a hospital administrator, senior director of a major hospital system and national vice president of consulting and business development for a large healthcare company.
Vitale’s leadership in the New York health care community extends well beyond his role at Brightpoint Health. He is Chairman of the Board of Amida Care, a managed care Special Needs Plan (SNP) serving people living with HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, and homelessness, partly owned by Brightpoint. He also serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Community Care Management Partners (CCMP), a health home provider network; Treasurer of the Board of Directors of Queens Coordinated Care Partners; a member of the steering committee of the Maimonides Medical Center Performing Provider System, a partner in New York State’s Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment (DSRIP) Program; and a member of the Board of Directors of Treatment Communities of America, a national organization that advocates for and to advance a comprehensive system of community centered care for those with substance use and mental health issues.
A strong advocate for progressive health care policy that allows equal access to care for people regardless of social or economic status, Vitale serves on the Board of Directors for the Community Health Care Association of New York State (CHCANYS).
In 2014, Vitale became a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the nation’s foremost professional society for healthcare leaders. He is an elected fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine.
